  • U.S. College Expo Draws Thousands of Attendees as Canadian Interest in U.S. Colleges Rises

The U.S. College Expo 2025 returns to Toronto on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Roy Thomson Hall as more Canadian students look south for higher education.

As Canada’s first and only event of its kind, the U.S. College Expo is a free one-day opportunity connecting thousands of students and families with representatives from colleges, universities and prep schools across the U.S. It provides valuable insights into school selection, admissions, scholarships, and financial aid for aspiring student-athletes, future doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs and beyond.

According to Joanna Severino, the Canadian who founded the U.S. College Expo in 2012, Canadian interest in U.S. postsecondary education remains unwavering. This demand is driven by the vast range of options, enhanced employability, and specialized programs available in the U.S.

"With rising tuition costs and limited post-secondary spots in Canada, students and families are seeking other options to make their dreams a reality. After attending the U.S. College Expo, they learn U.S. colleges are not as much of a stretch as once thought," said Severino, also founder and president of Prepskills, Canada’s premier SSAT and SAT preparation provider. “I founded the U.S. College Expo to demystify the admissions process so students can see a world of opportunities under one roof.”

In 2022–2023, 27,800 Canadian students were enrolled in U.S. post-secondary institutions. In 2023–2024, that number increased to 28,998, reflecting a 4.2% rise from the previous year. Compared to roughly 220 post-secondary institutions in Canada, the U.S. boasts nearly 4,000, offering greater opportunities in fields such as AI, cybersecurity, medicine, professional sports, esports, and beyond. These specialized pathways also make Canada one of the top sources of international students for U.S. colleges and universities.

"The U.S. College Expo is a must-attend event for any Canadian student exploring U.S. education options—especially those looking to become a pro athlete," said U.S. College Expo guest Christopher Egi, a Harvard JD/MBA, former captain of Harvard Basketball, and Canadian Junior National Basketball Team member.
